Hear light. See sound. Chromasonic is an immersive, supersensory experience to inspire expanded states of awareness and connection.

I felt color as if it mixed in my body

It’s like time was standing still

I felt like a child seeing something for the first time

I couldn’t tell if my eyes were open or closed

I was inside and outside of my body at the same time

Come have your own experience
at one of our sites.

Fluid State lives within Deep Creek Mine in Telluride, CO. The 60-foot long light and sound installation is suspended in the mine’s longest shaft, a pitch-black void the length of a football field in the heart of the mountain.

The work is composed of four connected spaces defined by a series of translucent scrims and dimensional sound. Light generated from sound waves illuminates and activates each of the four chambers using Chromasonic Refrequencing.

You and your fellow participants morph between presence and absence as your field of view continuously evolves, and space appears to expand and contract. Awash in light and sound, you are in a timeless flow of perceptual awareness and interaction.

Sensory Field is a hyper-immersive matrix of spaces in which sound frequencies generate light in real-time. The installation continuously morphs as you wander between the structures or choose to sit inside them.

Some sound sequences reveal the vast site and the participants throughout in a multispectral field of light. Others create a more intimate space, enveloping viewers in localized color and sound. Movement within the work allows for different visceral experiences inside this multidimensional installation at any given time.

Chromasones are monumental immersive light and sound sculptures for up to 250 participants.

By day the sculpture’s self-generative light and color sequences are responsive to participants and convert light to sound in real-time.

By night, Chromasone comes alive as an interactive light and sound instrument where sound converts to light in live performances.

We create harmonic connections between natural and artificial cognition by fusing science with art in light and sound.

Chromasonic fuses art and science to elicit visceral and potentially transformational experiences of presence, awareness, and connection.

Our sites embrace both physical and virtual sensory technologies. Fusing light and sound, we create harmonic connections between natural and artificial cognition. The works blur boundaries between physical space and our perception, creating conditions that appear to shift the experience of time and space.

Chromasonic started as a collaborative art and research lab founded by visual artist Johannes Girardoni with sound artists Orpheo McCord and Joel Shearer. The studio explores the potential of art as a catalyst to harmonize cognitive and somatic states.

Chromasonic connects science to the inquiry of artmaking. We create fundamental connections between light waves and sound waves to expand natural perception through Chromasonic Refrequencing. This sensory technology makes light audible and sound visible.

Chromasonic’s sites allow you to experience a fundamental form of augmented perception without reliance on a device. In this way, we can organically expand natural perception.

We play analog instruments to generate light across the full visible spectrum and use all visible color frequencies to generate sound waves from light.

We are all challenged by our attention-monopolizing, screen-centric culture and by experiencing so much of our lives through devices. A Chromasonic immersion is an invitation to let go and creates an effortless atmosphere to be fully present with your senses.

Chromasonic inspires participants to connect to non-ordinary states of consciousness and awareness. In our boundless spaces we close the loop between the immateriality of the environment and the immateriality of ourselves.

Participants are immersed in full body-mind experiences that ground you in a new awareness of your perception – an awareness of awareness.

The experience of amplified presence and awareness can be individual or together with others in Chromasonic’s technology-enabled spaces. While the sensory reciprocity of our sites may elicit unique connections to self through perception, the experiences are additionally powerful when shared.
