Chromasonic is an immersive light and sound experience to inspire expanded states of awareness and connection.

I felt color as if it mixed in my body

It’s like time was standing still

I felt like a child seeing something for the first time

I couldn’t tell if my eyes were open or closed

I was inside and outside of my body at the same time

Come have your own experience
at one of our sites.

Satellite One features a unique curvilinear space that appears boundless and infinite from within. Participants are invited to experience a Chromasonic Immersion, in which you hear light and see sound, grounding you in a new awareness of your perception.

Sessions can be booked privately, by the hour, for up to eight participants.

Fluid State lives within Deep Creek Mine in Telluride, CO. The 60-foot long light and sound installation is suspended in the mine’s longest shaft, a pitch-black void the length of a football field in the heart of the mountain.

The work is composed of four connected spaces defined by a series of translucent scrims and dimensional sound. Light generated from sound waves illuminates and activates each of the four chambers using Chromasonic Refrequencing.

You and your fellow participants morph between presence and absence as your field of view continuously evolves, and space appears to expand and contract. Awash in light and sound, you are in a timeless flow of perceptual awareness and interaction.

Sensory Field is a hyper-immersive matrix of spaces in which sound frequencies generate light in real-time, continuously morphing as you wander between the structures or choose to pause inside them.

Multispectral sequences undulate between revealing the vast site and enveloping you in localized color and sound, creating the perception of spatial elasticity. Your movement within the work allows for different visceral experiences inside this multidimensional installation at any given time.

Chromasones are monumental immersive light and sound sculptures for up to 250 participants.

By day the sculpture’s self-generative light and color sequences are responsive to participants and convert light to sound in real-time.

By night, live performers bring Chromasone alive as an interactive light and sound instrument.

The StudioLab is Chromasonic’s creative hub where we develop our sites, create the authoring tools and algorithms to generate our immersive content, and prototype our installations.

We create harmonic connections between natural and artificial cognition by fusing science with art, making light audible and sound visible through Chromasonic Refrequencing.

Chromasonic explores intersections of art and science to elicit visceral and potentially transformational experiences of presence, awareness, and connection.

Our sites embrace both physical and virtual sensory technologies. Merging light and sound, we create harmonic connections between natural and artificial cognition. The works blur boundaries between physical reality and our perception, creating conditions that appear to shift the experience of time and space.

Chromasonic started as a collaborative art studio and research lab founded by visual artist Johannes Girardoni with sound artists Orpheo McCord and Joel Shearer. The StudioLab explores the potential of art as a catalyst to harmonize cognitive and somatic states.

Chromasonic connects science to the inquiry of artmaking. We create fundamental connections between light waves and sound waves through Chromasonic Refrequencing. We manipulate analog instrumentation to generate light across the full visible spectrum and use all visible color frequencies to generate sound from light. This sensory technology makes light audible and sound visible.

Chromasonic’s sites allow you to experience a fundamental form of augmented perception without reliance on a device. In this way, we can organically expand natural perception.

Many of us are challenged by our attention-monopolizing, screen-centric culture that consumes so much of our lives. A Chromasonic Immersion is an invitation to let go, creating an effortless atmosphere to be fully present with your senses.

Chromasonic inspires participants to connect to non-ordinary states of consciousness and awareness. In our boundless spaces we close the loop between the immateriality of the environment and the immateriality of ourselves.

Participants are immersed in full body-mind experiences that ground you in a new awareness of your perception – an awareness of awareness.

Experiencing amplified presence and awareness can enhance connection to self as well as foster a strong connection to others within a Chromasonic Immersion.

Chromasonic’s sites accommodate gatherings appropriate for societal “reopening.” Our walk-through sites accommodate social distancing. Satellites feature air exchange systems with HEPA filtration and UV-C light sanitation. Surfaces are sanitized between sessions, and occupancy is limited to quarantine pods and small private groups. Masks are required to be worn at our sites at all times.
